Guiding Women Through Perimenopause and Menopause with Expertise and Compassion

Discover how Dr. Katie OBrien combines decades of conventional medical experience with Functional, Integrative Medicine to help women restore hormonal balance, clarity, and vitality during this transformative stage of life.

Personalized, Root-Cause Solutions for Hormonal Health and Vitality

Functional Medicine goes beyond symptom management to understand the underlying drivers of your health challenges. It is safe, effective, and often life-changing—whether you’re looking to optimize your well-being, prevent future illness, or find relief from chronic conditions. By addressing the root causes, we help women regain clarity, energy, balance, and confidence, empowering them to feel like themselves again.

At Tahoe Hormone Therapy, we combine advanced lab testing, hormone therapy, GLP-1 medication management, supplements, peptides, and mind-body strategies to create a fully individualized plan for each patient. Every plan is designed to evolve with your changing body and hormones, ensuring care that adapts to your needs during perimenopause, menopause, and beyond. Our goal is to provide a clear, actionable roadmap to help you feel your best now—and for years to come.

Hormonal Imbalances & Perimenopause/ Menopause Symptoms

Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can impact nearly every aspect of a woman’s health—energy, mood, sleep, weight, libido, and more. These shifts are normal, but imbalances can lead to frustrating symptoms that affect daily life and overall well-being.

At Tahoe Hormone Therapy, we use advanced hormone testing and individualized treatment plans to restore balance and support your body through this transition. Care may include bio-identical hormone therapy, lifestyle optimization, nutrition guidance, supplements, and peptides tailored specifically to your needs.

Does This Sound Like You?

  • Hot flashes and night sweats

  • Irregular periods or heavy bleeding

  • Mood changes, anxiety, or irritability

  • Low libido

  • Weight changes or stubborn body fat

  • Fatigue and poor sleep

  • Brain fog and difficulty focusing

HEALTH OPTIMIZATION

Health is a spectrum—you don’t need a diagnosis to work with a physician. Ideally, people seek care to feel their best and function at their highest level. Many women wait until symptoms have compounded and can’t remember the last time they truly felt great. At Tahoe Hormone Therapy, we aim to change that by helping you achieve optimal health.

HOW WE CAN HELP:

  • Improved sleep

  • Enhanced focus and mental clarity

  • Better stress management

  • Reduced aches and pains

  • Balanced immune response

  • Increased libido

  • Improved physical performance and recovery

  • Sustainable weight management

  • Higher energy levels

Weight Loss

Maintaining a healthy weight can be particularly challenging during perimenopause and menopause due to hormonal shifts, changes in metabolism, and lifestyle factors. Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is more than just aesthetic—it can improve energy, hormonal balance, metabolic health, and overall well-being. At Tahoe Hormone Therapy, we focus on a personalized, sustainable approach that supports long-term results rather than quick fixes.

HOW WE CAN HELP:

  • Better blood sugar control, lower cholesterol and improved metabolic health

  • Reduced strain on joints, making movement and daily activities feel easier

  • Healthier appetite signaling, so hunger and cravings feel more manageable

  • Decreased harmful belly fat linked to inflammation and chronic disease

  • Increased energy and stamina throughout the day

  • Improved sleep quality and overall physical comfort

  • Feel more confident and in control of your health

Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health

Cardiovascular disease is the #1 killer of women in the United States, yet it often develops silently—many women have no symptoms until a major event occurs. That’s why early assessment and prevention are essential, especially during perimenopause and menopause when hormonal shifts can increase risk.

At Tahoe Hormone Therapy, we focus on root-cause risk reduction by evaluating key biomarkers of cardiovascular and metabolic health, including lipoprotein status and arterial inflammation markers. Our approach combines personalized lifestyle strategies, anti-inflammatory nutrition, stress management, and hormone balance to help women reduce risk and optimize long-term heart and metabolic health.

ISSUES WE TREAT:

  • Hypertension

  • Hyperlipidemia

  • Metabolic Syndrome

  • Heart Disease

  • Pre-Diabetes / Type 2 Diabetes

OTHER Hormonal Disorders

Hormones regulate nearly every aspect of our health, from metabolism and energy to reproduction and mood. Imbalances can occur at any point in the chain—from the brain (hypothalamus and pituitary) to the hormone-producing organs (thyroid, ovaries, adrenals, pancreas) to the cells themselves—and may lead to frustrating symptoms of hormone dysregulation.

At Tahoe Hormone Therapy, we evaluate each step of this system to identify missing or mismatched links and create personalized, systematic treatment plans. While bio-identical hormone therapy is often used for perimenopausal and menopausal women, it is rarely the first step. Our approach focuses on restoring balance, supporting hormone production and signaling, and addressing root causes.

ISSUES WE TREAT:

  • Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

  • Obesity and Diabetes

  • Hypothyroidism & Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis

  • Adrenal Dysfunction

  • Insulin Resistance

Frequently asked questions

WHAT IS FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE?

Functional Medicine is a personalized, science-based approach to healthcare that looks at the root causes of symptoms rather than just treating them. It considers your unique genetics, environment, lifestyle, and hormones to create a plan tailored to your body and goals.

Unlike conventional medicine, which often treats individual symptoms or conditions in isolation, Functional Medicine:

- Examines the connections between body systems

- Uses advanced labs and testing to uncover hidden imbalances

- Focuses on long-term health, prevention, and wellness

- Empowers patients to make informed, sustainable lifestyle changes

At Tahoe Hormone Therapy, we combine conventional medical expertise with Functional Medicine principles to help women in perimenopause and menopause feel balanced, energized, and in control of their health.

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

At this time, we do not accept insurance. Functional Medicine and individualized care often require time-intensive appointments, personalized lab panels, and highly tailored treatment plans that fall outside the scope of standard insurance coverage.

By operating outside insurance, we can provide:

- Extended, in-depth appointments focused on root causes rather than quick visits

- Personalized, flexible care plans that evolve with your needs

- Direct access to Dr. Katie (MD), Holli Miller (NP), our Health Coach, and Physique Coach

-24/7 portal support and timely follow-ups without restrictions

This model allows us to focus entirely on your health goals and long-term outcomes, rather than insurance limitations, paperwork, or coding restrictions.

DO YOU SEE PATIENTS IN PERSON?

No, all appointments are fully virtual. This approach allows Dr. Katie and our team to provide care to women across Nevada, Arizona, Massachusetts, California, and beyond. Virtual visits give you the flexibility to access personalized, high-quality care from the comfort of your home, while still receiving the same thorough evaluation, guidance, and support as an in-person appointment.

CAN I USE MY HSA OR FSA FOR SERVICES?

Most insurance plans do not allow membership fees to be paid with HSA or FSA funds. However, you may be able to use your HSA/FSA for the Foundational Assessment, labs, supplements, or medications. While we cannot guarantee eligibility, we are happy to provide a superbill to help you submit expenses for possible reimbursement.

IF I JOIN MEMBERSHIP, DO I HAVE TO WORK WITH A COACH?

While we do offer a low-cost membership option that does not include Coaching, we highly encourage all patients to choose a membership that includes coaching, as we have seen that the expertise and accountability offered by our coaches leads to the most significant health improvements among our members.

HOW LONG DOES THIS TAKE?

Your first Foundational Assessment includes a 90-minute appointment with Dr. Katie and a 60-minute follow-up with our Health Coach. From the time of purchase to your meeting with Dr. Katie, the process typically takes about 6 weeks or more, as patients need to complete labs and intake paperwork prior to the appointment. This preparation ensures we have all the information needed to provide a comprehensive, personalized assessment.

Membership itself is 12 months long, although many women choose to stay on for longer in our lower cost, maintenance membership.

HOW MUCH DOES THIS COST?

Discovery Call is approximately $35, Foundational Assessment approximately $725, and memberships range from $199-$525/month.

WHEN SHOULD I REACH OUT TO BOOK?

The best time to book is as soon as you’re ready to take control of your health. Early intervention allows us to identify root causes, address imbalances, and create a plan tailored to your goals before symptoms intensify.

CAN I JUST BRING MY OWN LAB RESULTS INSTEAD OF DOING NEW TESTS?

While we can review your existing labs, there is typically an additional fee for reviewing extensive prior results. We strongly prefer using our own curated panel, as it ensures the labs are recent, relevant, and comprehensive, giving us the clearest picture of your health. To be considered “recent,” your labs must be less than 90 days old. Using our selected tests allows us to provide accurate, personalized recommendations and avoid gaps or inconsistencies in your evaluation. The current lab panel costs approx $325, and is not included in the price of the Foundational Assessment.

WHY DO YOU USE A MEMBERSHIP MODEL INSTEAD OF INDIVIDUAL VISITS?

True health transformation takes time, consistency, and personalized care—especially during perimenopause and menopause when hormone levels and health needs can change rapidly. One-off appointments often focus on immediate symptoms, but lasting results require ongoing monitoring, adjustments, and support.

Our membership model allows us to:

- Track your progress over time and adjust your plan as your hormones and lifestyle evolve

- Provide regular access to Dr. Katie (MD), Holli Miller (NP), our Health Coach, and Physique Coach

- Offer 24/7 portal support and accountability check-ins

- Focus on root causes rather than just symptom management

With membership, your care is continuous, coordinated, and proactive, so you don’t just manage symptoms—you optimize your health and vitality for the long term.

I AM 65 OR OLDER / ON MEDICARE OR MEDICAID—CAN YOU SEE ME?

Unfortunately, we cannot see patients who are 65 or older or enrolled in Medicare or Medicaid. Because we have not opted into these programs, we are unable to accept patients on Medicare or Medicaid, regardless of age. Our services are focused on women in perimenopause and menopause who have private insurance or are self-pay.

ANOTHER PROVIDER IS CURRENTLY PRESCRIBING MY HORMONE THERAPY OR GLP MEDICATION—CAN YOU TAKE OVER MY CARE?

Yes—absolutely. If you are enrolled in our membership, we can fully take over the prescribing and management of hormone therapy and/or GLP medications. We will review your medical history, current treatment plan, and relevant labs to ensure a safe, seamless transition, then tailor your care based on your individual needs and goals.

DO I HAVE TO LIVE IN A PARTICULAR STATE TO BE SEEN BY DR. KATIE OR HOLLI?

Yes. You must be physically located in Arizona, Massachusetts, California, or Nevada at the time of your appointments. Because medical licensing is state-specific, we are only able to provide care to patients located in these states during virtual visits.

CAN I LEAVE THE MEMBERSHIP AT ANY TIME?

Yes. Memberships can be canceled with 30 days’ notice, in accordance with the terms outlined in your membership agreement. Please note that any additional costs for services already rendered may still apply.

ARE THERE ANY CONDITIONS YOU DO NOT TREAT?

Yes—there are certain conditions outside our area of expertise. Dr. Katie does not treat chronic infections such as Lyme disease, mold illness, Long COVID, EBV, or similar complex infectious conditions. For patients seeking care for these issues, we recommend finding a qualified practitioner through the Institute for Functional Medicine directory at www.ifm.org.

ARE YOU MY PRIMARY CARE OR URGENT CARE/ER DOCTOR?

No. We do not provide primary care, urgent care, or emergency services. Functional Medicine is focused on root cause evaluation, prevention, and long-term health optimization, not acute or emergency care. All patients are required to have a primary care or urgent care/ER provider for any urgent or emergency needs.

DO I HAVE TO BUY SUPPLEMENTS FROM YOU?

Absolutely not! Patients are not required to purchase supplements from us. However, we carefully curate high-quality, evidence-based supplement recommendations as part of your personalized plan, and using our recommended products can help ensure consistency, quality, and effectiveness. Additionally, we pass on a 10% supplement discount to all of our members.

Yes— I want to feel strong again!
